Edible birds’ nests (Yanwo) have a long history that dates back to the Tang Dynasty in ancient China with more recorded information available for the Ming and Qing Dynasties. In the ancient Asian culture, birds’ nests were regarded as a symbol of wealth, health, preciousness, royalty, and love. Today, consuming birds’ nests is becoming a more acceptable and affordable self-love and care routine in Asia.
Our birds’ nests are those of a unique swiftlet in Southeast Asia. In the past, because of limited science and technology, people could take the risk only of collecting birds’ nests directly from caves. Thanks to the development of science and technology, the modern birds’ nest industry uses the Swiftlet House management system to imitate the cave environment and attract swiftlets to the House to build their nests. After the eggs hatch, the swiftlets abandon their nests and then they are collected to proceed with the cleaning and sterilization procedures.
